COURSE DESCRIPTION
There are few pots in the lexicon of pottery forms more iconic than the Korean Moon Jar and there are few makers in the world today who do it better than Moon Do Bang! We are so excited to invite Moon back to our Petaluma studio after the success of his 2023 visit. This April, Moon will be teaching a hands on two-day Moon Jar Workshop intensive!
After a lifetime of making pots it is rare to be completely captivated when watching a potter at work, and yet almost every potter you ask says exactly that about Moon, he is an astounding potter, and an exceptional person on all levels, one of history’s greats. During his last visit he had everyone captivated for hours at a time.
To prep for class start practicing your 5-6lb cylinder on the wheel. The two-day workshop format will include demonstrations and plenty of individual attention to develop your skills for both throwing large, and emphasizing volume. Come prepared with your own basic throwing skills and tools. Moon will be using B-Mix as it closely resembles the Porcelain he uses in Korea. *Moon will be speaking in Korean translated to English by Miki Shim.
OUR STUDIO
Our Petaluma studio is equipped with electric wheels and work tables. We have some basic tools available for use but recommend bringing your own tools. We are within walking distance of restaurants and coffee shops in downtown Petaluma.
MATERIALS AND FIRING
Your class fee includes 25 lbs of clay. You will need to bring basic tools with you, I will send an email with what you need to bring and other logistics 2-3 weeks prior to class. The class does not include firing, if you’d like for us to bisque fire your work we can accommodate that with an additional fee. The timeline for bisque firing may be up to 3 weeks and you’ll need to plan to pick up your pieces within the next two weeks. Accommodations can be made for shipping bisque fired work, fees to be discussed on a case by case scenario.
CANCELLATION POLICY
If you sign up and then are unable to attend for any reason there are no available refunds OR credits unless we can fill your spot with someone on the waitlist, so the sooner you can let us know the better.
